Breaking Gound - Show and Sale
An innovative exhibition of paintings celebrating the importance of soil in mark-making, with soil as a pigment. Canadian landscape artists Cam Forrester, Greg Hargarten, Paul Trottier, Roger Trottier, and Ken Van Rees, will be hosting a showing of the paintings on October 21 and 22nd 2016, at the Willows Golf and Country Club, in Saskatoon. The Artists’ reception will take place Friday from 7pm - 10pm.
Breaking Ground features recent works by the group including soil profile artwork done on site in Saskatchewan, as well as works painted with pigments made from soil, bone and antler.
The soil, collected from areas in Saskatchewan and other parts of Canada, was chosen for its color and consistency. It was ground up with pestle and mortar then mixed with egg tempura or acrylic gel. The bone and antlers collected were heated in a fire and similarly ground and mixed. The result is a collection of paintings with a unique relationship to the landscape they represent.

Illuviation- Embedding Soil into Art
Works by MEN WHO PAINT
Illuviation explores how five painters from different walks of life move into a deeper examination of the importance of soil in mark making with soil as a pigment. The process of embedding soil into art creates a transformative avenue for the painters by reaffirming our intimate connection with soil that
sustains artistic practice and our life.
The year 2015 was declared as the International Year of Soils by the United Nations General Assembly. Soil is crucial for food, fibre and fuel production, ecosystem health and sustainable
development. There are many areas in the world where soil is at risk of being lost to erosion or damaged by contaminants. This exhibition is a thematic body of work that creates thoughtful awareness and celebrates the importance of soil in a healthy society.
